Ballads Here and Ballads There

The very thought of blogging about 6-day-events makes me very lazy... So, I'll be writing about it in March or April :P

Now, the thing is, (G)/(C)Rime Of The Ancient Mariner written in 1798 is in our English LR which was last edited in 1994 if I'm right. It is just like the usual makes-no-sense-ballad with a really different English.

No - I'm not referring to the "thou" "thy" stuff.. It's the Archaic English used!

1) The Mariner's story starts with the classical "sun is setting, the ship is near the horizon etc. and they lived happily ever after" endings.

2) He uses all sorts of crazy spellings and thats called "archaic" english.

3) Our NCERT books have a really good recognition among the students for making mistakes in spellings/formatting etc.

4) One example is, the poet uses "spake" instead of "spoke". The doubt that will arise in similar places. Is the author using it or is a typo?

4) Are we allowed to use Archaic english in the exam?

         A BIG NO

5) Then what's the use of this?

Maybe it is to remind us that old authors made a lot of spelling mistakes and we shouldn't be making them...

6) Is the mariner a psycho?

Dunno.

7) Did the albatross' corpse fall on the ship? If so, did they literally hang the albatross around his neck?

8) How can the poet "create" a proverb?

Can I create one? Like "reading the Rime" for indicating that someone is dead crazy?

A suitable title would be Crime of the Ancient Mariner.

Wow... I'm late to school.. Bye! Proper conclusions later :P Editing FTW!
